The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team. The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

From March 18 through March 24, special operations deputies arrested and charged the following suspects:

Zachary Conrow Blosser, 26, 233 Weeping Cherry Lane, Columbia, S.C., possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Leland Police Department investigated the following incidents in the last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

March 5

Larceny; a suspect took a cell phone from a residence on Blake Circle.

March 6

Tampering with town property; suspects tampered with a town-owned dog trap on Ricefield Branch Street.

Larceny; a suspect took medications valued at $60 from a home on Basin Street without permission.

An impaired driver crashed his way into handcuffs while law enforcement prepared to set up a checkpoint Friday night.

Local law-enforcement officers were preparing for a roadblock at U.S. 74/76 at the Brunswick River Bridge in Leland when Patrick Deon Davis, 28, of Wilmington rear-ended the car in front of him.

According to law-enforcement officials, he was so intoxicated he vomited repeatedly, making it impossible for law enforcement to give him a breathalyzer test. He was given a blood alcohol test onsite in the Bat Mobile.

We have been fortunate this week to have the N.C. State College of Veterinary Medicine at our Animal Protective Services facility in Supply, along with its spay/neuter van.

This free “Spay a Stray” clinic was sponsored by Petsense and managed by our friends at Paws-Ability. This was a great reminder of how important it is to have our pets spayed or neutered. Spay or neutering animals not only increases the longevity of their life and helps them live a healthier life, it also decreases the intake of unwanted pets into our shelter.
