    April 24

    Emily Megan Buffkin, 20, 159 Big Branch Road, Delco, cited for stolen merchandise from Walmart.

    Jonathan Paul Johnson, 29, 220 Greenview Drive, Wilmington, arrested on warrants from New Hanover County.

    Larceny by someone entering a Hevener Street residence and stealing property.

    May 1

    Samuel Kevin Hollingsworth, 42, 2496 Bella Coola Road, Lake Waccamaw, arrested on a charge of misdemeanor larceny after he was caught concealing items from Walmart on his person, then leaving the store.

    Phone scam by someone calling the resident of a home on Country Club Drive and requesting money.

  • Sunset Beach councilman charged with DWI

    A Sunset Beach town councilman is scheduled for a June 4 court appearance on a driving while impaired charge.

    Sunset Beach Town Councilman Mike Williams was charged with DWI by the North Carolina Highway Patrol following a traffic stop in Calabash on Feb. 1.

    According to a report, Williams was observed driving left of center at 9:09 p.m. on N.C. 179 at Beach Drive with “red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol.”

    During the month of April, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 130 calls: five structure fires, three fire

    alarms, six motor vehicle accidents, 14 public assistance calls, and 102 EMS first-response calls.

    Larceny of a check and forgery of a stolen document by someone who stole a check to use at Tienda Tropicana on Holden Beach Road.

    Daniel Lee Smith, 23, of 327 Ridgewood Drive, Calabash, charged with resisting public officer and simple physical assault upon an officer.

    William Austin Inman, 18, 10999 N.C. 41 West, Bladenboro, arrested on a felony charge of possession of burglary tools.

    Breaking and entering possession of burglary tools and on East Coast Lane.
