    Financial identity theft, the victim reported while vacationing in Florida an unknown person obtained credit card information and made many purchases without consent.

    Breaking and entering and larceny from motor vehicle. Someone stole tools from an unsecured toolbox on a vehicle parked on Towne Lake Drive.

    March 25

    Justin Michael Charles Platts, 25, arrested on charges of felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Calls up at newly built Calabash fire station

    CALABASH — Just in the nick of time, the Calabash Fire Department has a new, larger station to accommodate a matching increase in calls.

    Department spokeswoman Honey Shore said the figures as of Monday, March 31, speak for themselves.

    From November 2012 to March 2013, the department had 619 calls. From November 2013 to March 30 of this year, it had 742 calls — an increase of nearly 20 percent.

    Joel William Prentice Jr., 31, 119 NE 77th St., Oak Island, arrested on charges of driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and open container.

    Obtaining property by false pretenses by taking items from the shelves and returning them for money.
