  • Golf cart batteries hot item among thieves

    In the past two weeks there have been several larcenies of golf cart batteries on Ocean Isle Beach.

    On Sunday, Feb. 10, someone removed batteries from a golf cart on East Second Street. On Friday, Feb. 1, there were two reports of larceny of golf cart batteries on Wilmington Street.

    During the board of commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12, police chief John Goodwin said the batteries are being taken to salvage yards and sold for cash. He said boat batteries are popular, too.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

     

    Feb. 2

    Simple assault on Mill Branch Road, Ash.

     

    Feb. 3

    Seized property in Bolivia; officers seized a Beretta .25 caliber pistol.

     

    Feb. 4

    Simple physical assault on High Hill Drive, Shallotte.

    Burglary with non-forced entry on Kershaw Street, Calabash.

  • Sheriff’s Corner: Celebrating a banner year with volunteers

    The year 2012 goes down in the history of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office as a record year for contributions by dedicated citizen volunteers.

    The Volunteer Services Program contributed 13,717 hours at a value of $210,826 to the operations of our office. These dedicated citizens performed duties in 12 functional areas across the full spectrum of our operations.

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Feb. 3

    Obtaining property by false pretense on Main Street; suspect pawned a stolen guitar.

     

    Feb. 4

    Breaking-and-entering and larceny on Whiteville Road; suspect cut a fence and took $6,000 worth of communication wire.

  • Single vehicle wreck claims second life in a week on Brunswick County roadways

    BOILING SPRING LAKES—A single vehicle wreck claimed the life of a Holden Beach man on Thursday evening. This is  the second fatal wreck on Brunswick County roadways in a week.

    Preston Maximin, 34, of Holden Beach was killed when he lost control of the 1998 Jeep Cherokee he was operating. The wreck happened at approximately 7:10 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 in the area of East Boiling Spring Road between North Shore Drive and Nassau Drive.

  • Drugs, paraphernalia land three in jail

    Heroin, cocaine and drug paraphernalia landed three people in the Brunswick County jail last week.

    Kirby Elizabeth Williams, 29, 1655 Empire Road, Supply, was arrested by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit and charged with two counts each of possession of heroin, a schedule I controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Williams was also charged with one count of felony possession of cocaine, a schedule II controlled substance.

    Jan. 29

    Missing person on Brown Trail, Leland.

    Assault on a female and burglary with forcible entry on Elon Drive, Supply.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Jan. 22

    Adam Scott Wright, 33, 502 Longwood Road, Ocean Isle Beach, arrested on a fugitive warrant from Florida. He was also in possession of two bindles of heroin, Xanax and drug paraphernalia.

    At the time of arrest, Wright gave police the wrong name and date of birth.
