  • $1,000 reward offered for return of stolen tools

    OCEAN ISLE BEACH—For one victim of a recent crime in Ocean Isle Beach, its personal.

    A recent theft is about more than just the materials, it’s about a person’s livelihood.

    On Monday, Feb. 4, an Ocean Isle Beach-based builder reported a breaking and entering to a utility trailer on a construction site.

    It occurred at 126 West 3rd St. There was damage to the trailer and larceny.

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

     

    Jan. 29

    Mail fraud on Sanguine Lane, Shallotte; victim received suspicious mail.

    Shoplifting from Walmart; suspect grabbed a digital camera and cut it out of the box.

    Identity theft at CVS; suspect presented a false Social Security card.

  • Alert: Car break-ins

     

    Recently the south end of Brunswick County, specifically in the area of Calabash Drive, Spring Hill Plantation and Oceanside Place, has experienced multiple incidents of breaking and entering of vehicles.

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office urges everyone to follow these guidelines:

    •Don’t leave your vehicle unlocked.

    •Don’t leave valuables inside your vehicle.

    •Be vigilant; watch for suspicious people in your neighborhood.

  • Carolina Shores: public input sought on gates, medians

    CAROLINA SHORES—Town commissioners want to hear residents’ views about maintenance of gate-roads and entrance medians.

    A public hearing is scheduled Thursday during the town board’s monthly meeting at 2 p.m. at town hall.

    The Carolina Shores Property Owners Association recently indicated in a letter to the town it could no longer maintain such properties the POA believes are owned by the town.

  • Sunset Beach police blotter

    On Jan. 31, Sunset Beach police investigated a breaking and/or entering and larceny reported at a villa on Clubhouse Road. A television was reported stolen.

    Also on Jan. 31, Thomas Aaron Voivedich, 24, of 605 Live Oak Drive, Sunset Beach, was charged with injury to personal property.

    On Jan. 22, police charged Scott Garrel Benton, 28, 668 Love Mill Road, Whiteville, with driving while impaired, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • New flag, new identity for Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office

    BOLIVIA—There is a new way to identify the men and women who serve Brunswick County—a flag.

    The newly designed Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office flag represents honor, tradition and pride.

    “The flag represents all of us and those who came before us, living or deceased,” Sgt. Del Routh, public information officer, said. “It will always be displayed in the sheriff’s office, the chief’s office and as a part of the color guard carried alongside of national and state colors for all to see.”

  • Special Operations Report

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From Jan. 21-27, special operations deputies set up checkpoints on Boonesneck Road, Beach Drive, Mount Misery Road, assisted with a DEU search warrant, public safety and court and participated in a SWAT call-out.

    Jan. 17

    Breaking and entering and larceny of a drum set and an air compressor after breaking and entering on Walker Street, Leland.

     

    Jan. 21

    Motor vehicle theft on Emiline Street, Holden Beach; suspect stole a Ford Ranger.

    Larceny of a washer and dryer, a refrigerator and an electric stove on Holden Beach Road.

    Burglary with forcible entry on Seashore Road, Supply.

  • Sheriff’s Corner: Next Citizens Academy coming up

    We are happy to announce we will start our 13th Citizens Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

    Classes will be 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays through April 23 in the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office training room in Bolivia.

    We are honored by the overwhelming interest in this program from the citizens of Brunswick County and grateful for the Citizens Academy graduates who continue on and graciously volunteer their time and talents at the sheriff’s office, detention center and courthouse.

    Larceny of gasoline in the Birch Pond apartments parking lot; subject siphoned gasoline from a vehicle.

    Lost property in the Walmart or CVS parking lot; victim got into car after leaving the store and lost her bracelet.

    Identity theft at Walmart; suspect found victim’s ID and used it in a theft.
