  • Southport man arrested for multiple break-ins

    A Southport man has been arrested for his involvement in several break-ins to local businesses during the past few weeks.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, William Earl Hewett, 18, of 4900 Trails End, Southport, was arrested around 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at a traffic stop on Winston-Salem Road in Boiling Spring Lakes.

    Hewett was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and property damage.

  • Supply man wanted for motor vehicle theft

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a Supply man wanted for motor vehicle theft.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, a 2002 Chevrolet Z-71 red pickup truck was stolen from a residence off Boones Neck Road in Supply between Sept. 28 and Sept. 29.

    Jerry Roy Vernon, 25, of 2071 Winds Court, Supply, is wanted for one count of larceny of a motor vehicle and one count of possession of stolen property.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Holden Beach crime report

    Holden Beach police investigated the following incidents from Sept. 21-27. All information is provided by the police department.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported on Sept. 24 on Ocean Boulevard West. Multiple items were removed from the motor vehicle, and a suspect has been identified in this case.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported on Sept. 24 on Ocean Boulevard West. An XM radio unit was removed from the vehicle.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Sept. 20-26, K-9 deputies answered nine calls, wrote seven citations and made seven drug arrests. K-9 deputies set up checkpoints at Midway Road and Village Road.

    The following suspects were charged:

    •Jeffery William Benedict, 21, of 327 Varnamtown Road in Supply; charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the following suspects last week. All information is provided by the sheriff’s office.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Simple assault on Green Loop Road in Leland; suspect grabbed victim by the head and bit his cheek.

    •Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury on Buckwood Court in Leland; suspect shot victim in the leg.

    •Property damage on Seashore Road in Supply; suspect damaged victim’s mailbox.

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Larceny at Ocean Isle Inn; subject entered office and removed $341 from drawer.

    •Larceny on Causeway Drive; subject drove away from Marathon without paying $14.02 for gas.

    •Brian Lee Phillips, 29, of Badin; charged with open container at parking lot of Museum of Coastal Carolina; subject had open bottle of liquor in vehicle.
