The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

From June 28-July 4, K-9 deputies answered 16 calls, wrote 16 citations and made 11 drug arrests.

K-9 deputies patrolled the following communities: Southport, Carolina Place and Sunset Harbor.

Stolen car, keys at Jones Ford

Shallotte Police are investigating the theft of a car and two sets of keys from Jones Ford.

On July 6, Jones Ford employees reported someone had broken into the dealership, causing $600 in damage to a window, and stole a four-door Toyota Sequoia valued at $16,000 along with keys to a GMC Envoy and a Ford Fusion.

Glass was on the floor underneath the window along with a large rock, the incident report states.

Suspect under investigation in break-ins

A Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputy’s car struck a 14-year-old boy on a bike Wednesday morning.

According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley, around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputy Andrew Lentz was driving a county vehicle on duty on Danford Road in Bolivia, when his car struck a 14-year-old boy riding his bike.

The North Carolina State Bar Association has suspended a local assistant district attorney’s license to practice law in North Carolina.

But as long as long as assistant district attorney Samantha Alsup follows Bar-ordered conditions, the suspension is stayed and she is free to practice law.

District attorney Rex Gore said the Bar found Alsup withheld discoverable items, which he said was a mistake on Alsup’s part, not a malicious act.
