  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Simple assault on Green Loop Road in Leland; suspect grabbed victim by the head and bit his cheek.

    •Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury on Buckwood Court in Leland; suspect shot victim in the leg.

    •Property damage on Seashore Road in Supply; suspect damaged victim’s mailbox.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Larceny at Ocean Isle Inn; subject entered office and removed $341 from drawer.

    •Larceny on Causeway Drive; subject drove away from Marathon without paying $14.02 for gas.

    •Brian Lee Phillips, 29, of Badin; charged with open container at parking lot of Museum of Coastal Carolina; subject had open bottle of liquor in vehicle.

  • West Virginia man charged with speeding in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—A West Virginia man was charged with speeding and eluding arrest Sunday night.

    Brian David Lynch, 24, of Scott Depot, W.Va., was charged with speeding 75 in a 55 zone and eluding arrest on Old Georgetown Road.

    Police said he was traveling 75 mph in the 55 mph zone in the Sept. 26 incident and refused to stop after a blue light was activated. He was stopped and charged in Sandpiper Bay. His bond was set at $500.

     

  • Supply pair arrested for shoplifting in Whiteville

      Supply pair arrested for shoplifting in Whiteville

    WHITEVILLE NEWS REPORTER

    Christy Bowling Rayner, 35, and Jeremy Richard Ward, 33, both of 269 South Penny St., Supply, were arrested by Whiteville police on Sept. 24 on shoplifting charges.

    They were charged with shoplifting eight computer games valued $166.71. 

  • Claremont man wrecks, dies Tuesday near Shallotte

    SHALLOTTE—A Claremont man was killed Tuesday night in a single-vehicle wreck near Shallotte.

    But investigators do not know if 70-year-old William Craven Kerns, of 5988 Lookout Height Drive, Claremont, was killed from injuries sustained in the wreck, or from what family members told investigators was a previous medical condition, N.C. State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. A.E. Morris said.

    “The M.E. is still trying to determine the cause of death. He may have died of a medical issue, but he was involved in a wreck,” Morris said.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Larceny from person at Walmart; suspect grabbed victim’s purse while she was loading shopping cart and ran off. Witnesses chased suspect who dropped purse behind Bed Land and got in a vehicle headed toward N.C. 130.

    •Larceny of a motor vehicle at Naber Dodge; a black Dodge Caravan that was thought to be loaned to a customer was found missing and has not shown back up.

  • Larceny investigation turns into large drug bust at Ocean Isle Beach

    A routine larceny investigation turned into one of the larger drug busts for the Ocean Isle Beach Police Department this past weekend.

    Detective Ken Bellamy said the department received a report of larceny of jewelry and money at about 2 a.m. Saturday from Alexandria Caesar, 30, of Asheville. Caesar gave officers a description of the suspect, who was found at the Ocean Isle Inn.

  • Commissioners declare September Teen Court month in Brunswick County

    BOLIVIA—In keeping with Teen Court’s mission of “serving communities, changing lives,” Brunswick County Commissioners on Monday proclaimed September as Teen Court Month in Brunswick County.

    Local defense attorney and president of the Brunswick County Bar Association Pauline Hankins spoke to commissioners about volunteering with Teen Court.

    “I found Teen Court to be one of the most rewarding programs I have ever volunteered for,” Hankins said.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office charged the following suspects last week. All information is provided by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

    •Amber Nicole Jenks, 19, of 6748 Carolina Beach Road, Lot 32, Wilmington, was charged with possession of a controlled substance on prison/jail premises, possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center and placed under a $10,000 secured bond.
