  • Incidents investigated in Sunset Beach

    Town police investigated the following incidents reported within the past week:

    •Breaking-and-entering to a motor vehicle and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported Feb. 29 on Dunbar Drive. About $25 worth of change was reported stolen, according to Sunset Beach Detective Joe Smith.

    •Injury to real property was reported March 1 at an address on West Main Street.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    A couple of weeks ago I heard words I never wanted to hear. They were words that brought instant tears to my eyes, words that should have been spoken differently.

    “You can pay me to do the procedure or you can pay me to put him to sleep.”

    One of my cats was sick.

    When the vet said these words to me, I had a knee jerk reaction. My eyes flooded with tears. I was already aware the vet bill was double what I had in my account at that moment.

  • Man charged with DWI in Sunset Beach

    A Sunset Beach man has been charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked.

    Jeffrey Scott Allen, 52, of 1078 Sirwood Place, Sunset Beach, was charged Feb. 25, according to Sunset Beach Police Detective Joe Smith.

  • Brunswick County drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit made the following arrests last week:

    •Saul Hernandez Ruiz, 27, of 8963 Fish Road, Leland, was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, manufacturing cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ruiz was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where he was placed under a $200,000 secured bond.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Mary Street in Shallotte; suspect entered unsecured home and stole $800 worth of arts and antiques, a computer printer, a guitar and a refrigerator.

    •Larceny and vandalism on Old Shallotte Road in Shallotte; suspect unbolted victim’s boat motor, damaging external tilt trim switch.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From Feb. 20-26, ACE deputies patrolled Winnabow, Longwood, Calabash, Holden Beach, Supply, Southport and Leland. They set up checkpoints at Mount Misery Road, Grey Bridge Road, Long Beach Road, Longwood Road, Holden Beach Road, N.C. 904, Blue Banks Loop Road and Old Ocean Highway.

    ACE deputies conducted 103 traffic stops and issued 48 total charges and citations, including two driving while impaired (DWI) charges.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Penelope Anita Gamble, 44, of 4618 Deer St., Shallotte, was charged with DWI and driving left of center on Wildwood Street.

    •Larceny of bank bag from New Life Christian Bookstore; someone took the bank bag from the business. The bag contained $900 in cash and $200 in checks.

    •Harassment at Food Lion; suspect called the manager and harassed him.

  • Break-in at Bridge Grill in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Town police are investigating a break-in and theft of items at Bridge Grill, 305 Sunset Blvd. N.

    Files and a cash register containing no money were listed as stolen in the incident reported Feb. 11.

    On Feb. 12, break-in and larceny at a residence on Canal Drive were reported. A TV was reported as stolen.

  • County to reignite fire oversight committee

    BOLIVIA—Brunswick County commissioners and emergency officials want to a reignite a fire department protection oversight committee that has been dwindling the past few years.

    At Brunswick County commissioners two-day budget and goals retreat last week, commissioners asked Brunswick County Emergency Services Director Anthony Marzano to present information about re-establishing the fire department protection oversight committee.
