  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Vandalism and property damage on West First Street; suspect damaged tire.

    •Vandalism and property damage on West First Street; suspect damaged tire and side mirror.

    •Vandalism and property damage on West Fourth Street; suspect damaged tire.

    •Breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny and property damage on East Second Street; suspect entered residence and removed flat screen TV.

  • Break-ins, thefts investigated in Sunset Beach

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents in the past week.

    •On Oct. 28, a breaking and entering was reported in one of the River Creek condominiums at Sea Trail. Someone broke into a room and stole a thin-screen TV.

    •On Oct. 25 breaking and entering with property damage was reported at a residence on 29th Street on the Sunset Beach island. A door was pried open with a tool; however, nothing was taken.

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Bismock Jerome Hailey, 48, of Ash: charged with driving while license revoked, fake registration and no insurance.

    •Nicholas Daniel Locklear, 32, of Supply; charged with domestic violence violation.

    •Jonathan Edward McDaniel, 25, of Shallotte; charged with resisting arrest.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office drug report

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and the North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Police Department have arrested three suspects from the Little River, S.C., area as part of an ongoing prescription pill diversion investigation.

  • Ocean Isle Beach man arrested on firearm by a felon charge

    Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have arrested an Ocean Isle Beach man for possession of firearm by a felon.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, agents arrested David Otis Mercer, 68, of 1724 Pembroke St., Ocean Isle Beach, for firearm by a felon after an undercover operation by the two agencies on Oct. 20.

    This was Mercer’s second possession of a firearm by a felon charge.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Chickadee Place in Shallotte; suspect broke into victim’s house and damaged the front window.

    •Larceny on Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia; suspect stole a Blackberry from victim’s purse.

    •Property damage on Persimmon Road in Carolina Shores; suspect threw a pumpkin at victim’s mailbox.

  • DWI checkpoint nets 11 arrests in Leland

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team set up a checkpoint Sunday, which resulted in 11 driving while impaired (DWI) arrests.

    ACE deputies, along with officers from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, Shallotte Police Department, Oak Island Police Department, Bald Head Island Public Safety, Navassa Police Department and the N.C. State Highway Patrol, set up the checkpoint from 11:30 p.m. until 3 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, on U.S. 74-76 at the Brunswick River Bridge near Leland.

  • Brunswick County ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Enforcement Team roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Oct. 25-31, K-9 deputies answered 10 calls, wrote seven citations and made five drug arrests.

    K-9 deputies arrested the following incidents:

    •Larry Paul Starling Lee, 21, of 229 Angel Island, Wilmington, was charged with possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • UPDATE: Sheriff’s detectives find missing woman at Leland home

    UPDATE: Brunswick County Sheriff's detectives found Byrd unharmed at a Leland home Monday afternoon.

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a woman who has been missing since Saturday, Oct. 30.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley, detectives are searching for Kimberly Denise Byrd, 24.

    Byrd was last seen between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, leaving her home at 6275 Sawdust Lane in Winnbaow. She was headed toward N.C. 87.
