    Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce board members voted unanimously to endorse the Brunswick County Schools $152 million bond referendum that will appear on the Nov. 8 general election ballot. The school bond is meant to provide funding for much-needed construction and renovations to the aging system.

    A new management team has taken the reins at Brick Landing, and it is truly a “team.”

    Trey and Jennifer Ernstes are now in charge of operations. They are a married couple with a beautiful 2-year-old daughter (Jordyn). Jennifer is the general manager and Trey is the director of golf operations.

    “Basically, I report to my wife, but I think we can handle it,” joked Trey Ernstes as I chatted with the two of them last week. “This is a great opportunity and we’re going to make it work.”

  • Get set for 10th Sunset at Sunset on Saturday

    New entertainment and a record number of vendors highlight this year’s 10th-anniversary Sunset at Sunset festival in Sunset Beach.

    Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Village at Sunset Beach next to Ingram Planetarium, this year’s event features a record number of vendors — 121 at last count — as well as new vendors.

    Event organizer Karen Joseph said some vendors are coming from as far as Maryland and Virginia.

  • Creative ‘Kaleidescopika’ opens BCCOWA season Oct. 1

    “Kaleidescopika,” a unique collaboration of music and muse, kicks off the BCCOWA Performing Arts Series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

    The performance in Odell Williamson Auditorium on the campus of Brunswick Community College in Bolivia is described as the “art of unfolding,” showcasing a touring alliance of cordis, a maverick contemporary chamber music group from Boston, Mass., and the Muse Cirque Company of Brooklyn, N.Y.
