Sixteen-year-old Wylie Penegar, a runner-up last year in the Oyster Festival 6.2-mile race, finished first Saturday by five seconds in the 157-runner race at Ocean Isle Beach.
In cool, overcast weather, Penegar, of Lancaster, S.C., finished in 35 minutes, 56 seconds. He beat fellow Lancaster runner Drew Burns, 17, by five seconds.
The top woman runner was Andrea Rene, of Wilmington. Rene, 30, finished in 41:30 and was seventh overall.
The top county runner was Dale Waters, of Leland. Waters, 44, finished in 41:25 and was sixth overall.
