  • ABCPOA Meet the Candidates Night

    The Alliance of Brunswick County Property Owners Association is sponsoring a Meet the Candidates Night on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m. at Odell Williamson Auditorium on the campus of Brunswick Community College in Bolivia.

    The public is invited to this question-and-answer forum featuring candidates for the following contested positions: U.S. Representative, state General Assembly, Brunswick County commissioners and school board.

  • County commissioners cancel Nov. 21 meeting

    The Nov. 21 regular meeting of the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners has been canceled because of a lack of time-sensitive matters for consideration and the proximity of the Thanksgiving holiday.

    The corresponding agenda meeting, scheduled for Nov. 15, has likewise been canceled.

  • West Brunswick beats South Columbus in tennis

     Staff Report

    West Brunswick beat South Columbus 6-3 in a non-conference tennis match Sept. 26 at Ocean Isle Beach Park Tennis Center.

    West won four singles matches.

    At No. 3, senior Emily Long won 6-4, 6-2. At No. 4, junior Bianca Desimone won 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5, junior Rylee Jones won 6-7 (9-11), 6-0, 11-9. At No. 6, senior Catherine Cheatham won 6-4, 6-2.

    West won two doubles matches.

    At No. 2, Desimone and senior McKenzie Winberg won 8-4. At No. 3, Cheatham and sophomore Madison Ward won 8-3.

  • Croatan defeats North Brunswick 3-2 in soccer

     LELAND — Croatan scored three first-half goals and went on to beat North Brunswick 3-2 in an East Central Conference soccer game Sept. 28.

    Croatan is 1-1 in the six-team conference, 5-6 overall. North is 0-1-1, 8-2-3 overall.

    The Cougars scored 1 minutes, 47 seconds into the game on a shot into the upper left of the goal.

    Croatan scored twice in the final 6:04 of the half. A low shot rolled inside the left post in giving Croatan a 2-0 lead.

    Leland police investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests in the last three weeks. All information is taken directly from incident and arrest reports.

    Sept. 13

    Edgar Villalba Romero, 29, Heirloom Drive, arrested on a failure to appear in court charge in New Hanover County.

    Sept. 14

    Larceny of a wallet from the Piggly Wiggly parking lot.

    Larceny of a cat.

    Sept. 15

    Harry Christopher Seeger, 29, Combine Lane, arrested on a warrant from New Hanover County.

    Breaking and entering and larceny of prescription medication on Knights Way, Leland.

    Larceny on Hickman Road, Calabash.

    Damage to real property on Cobblers Circle, Carolina Shores.

     The Brunswick County Superior Court under the direction of Judge Ola M. Lewis with prosecutor Jon David and courtroom clerk Amanda Kidd adjudicated the following cases Sept. 19 during a grand jury session:

    Sharmaine Brown, selling/delivering cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, maintaining vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substance, aggravating factors.
