  • Shallotte DMV driver’s license office to close for renovations

    The Shallotte DMV driver license office will temporarily close for equipment installation and renovations Thursday, Sept. 15. It is scheduled to re-open Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 a.m.

    The Shallotte office, at 5298 Main St. in Shallotte, is one of 25 driver license offices across the state to undergo a new office design that will include the installation of new cubicles and ergonomic bench seating to increase customer comfort, as well as informational posters.

  • Adam Fulford wins Mini-Stocks title

    MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Adam Fulford won the Mini-Stock championship Saturday, Sept. 10, at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

    Fulford finished third in the final points race of the season, one position ahead of brother Willie. Seven cars competed in the 20-lap race.

    Adam Fulford entered the final race a point ahead of his brother. Each Fulford finished the 10-race season with three victories.

    This is the fourth title for Adam Fulford.

    Willie Fulford has won three titles. Willie won the title in 2015 by six points over his brother.

  • Supply man accused of killing father in house fire

    A Supply man accused of killing his father Sunday in a house fire faces the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder and first-degree arson.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 60-year-old Alton Glen Caison, of 2843 Craven St., on the charges after his father, 86-year-old James Caison, was pulled from their burning home and died Sunday.

  • McCray leads the way for West in victory

     SHALLOTTE — Two stunning runs by Anthony McCray — 40 yards and 98 yards — helped lead West Brunswick to a 34-7 victory against Whiteville in a non-conference football game Sept. 9 at West.

    McCray finished with three touchdowns (the other was 5 yards) and unofficially gained 202 yards on 16 carries.

    Sophomore Damonte Daniels scored on a 22-yard run and senior Maliek King scored on a 6-yard run as the Trojans improved to 3-1. Whiteville, a Class 1A team, is 1-3.

  • Laney defeats Trojans in three sets

    The West Brunswick volleyball team lost three matches last week.

    Topsail beat West Brunswick 25-9, 21-25, 25-20, 25-13 in a conference match Sept. 6 at Topsail. The Pirates also won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

    In a non-conference match Sept. 7 at West, North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) beat the Trojans 25-14, 25-15, 25-15.

    Laney beat West in three sets in a conference match Sept. 8 at West.

    Laney led the first set 18-16 and outscored the Trojans 7-2 on the way to a 25-18 victory.

  • NHRMC medication disposal event Sept. 17

    New Hanover Regional Medical Center is scheduled to have a free medication disposal event Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the NHRMC Medical Mall, 2243 S. 17th St., beside the main hospital campus.

    NHRMC has partnered with law enforcement agencies, Cape Fear Community College, Safe Kids NC, Cape Fear Clinic, Cape Fear Coalition for a Drug Free Tomorrow and New Hanover Soil & Water Conservation District to collect unneeded and expired medications to be disposed of in a safe, convenient and environmentally sound manner.
