    CELEBRATION! That was the key word. I had to spell it out in capital letters because it was a capital event. April, our dear across-the-street neighbor of whom I have sometimes written, turned 40 on April 10.

  • What to do when your pet has diarrhea and your vet is closed

    One of the most disturbing, embarrassing and often disgusting disorders a pet can develop is diarrhea.

    Runny stools can distress more than your pet’s tummy. Your pet becomes upset because it had an accident, often on a favorite rug or bedspread. You get agitated because you’ve got to clean up the mess. Many times, you feel helpless and don’t know what to do next. And, if your luck is like mine, this tends to happen on the weekend when most veterinary clinics are closed.

    We have been on a roller coaster ride this year with April temperatures in February and February temperatures in April. Even with the crazy fluctuations, our spring blooming plants are still putting on a grand show. And, nothing says “it’s spring” quite like the annual Master Gardener Plant Sale at New Hanover County Arboretum. This year’s event is Thursday through Saturday, April 20-22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 23, from noon to 5 p.m.

  • Suspicious vehicle sought in Sunset Beach after break-in

    The Sunset Beach Police Department is seeking a suspicious vehicle following a break-in Thursday afternoon, April 12, in Sea Trail.

    A residence off Rice Mill Circle was broken into by force. The residents were not home at the time of the entry.

    A suspicious vehicle has been identified as a four-door black Honda or Nissan with a white hood.

    Anyone seeing a vehicle matching this description is asked to contact the Sunset Beach Police Department at 910-579-2151 or 911 after hours and on weekends.

     

  • Leland police seek cash thief

    Leland police are looking for a man who stole almost $900 from a wallet belonging to a fellow Wal-Mart shopper.

    The thief took the money about 8:15 p.m. April 2 and left the store on New Pointe Boulevard in a black sedan, according to a police news release issued Thursday.

    Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jonathan Kazee at 371-0274.

    The next session of Brunswick County Teen Court will be April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brunswick County Courthouse. Brunswick County Teen Court is a partnership program between Communities In Schools and the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office, made possible through financial support provided by the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Brunswick County.
