Bill Rabon has won the GOP nomination for the North Carolina State Senate District 8 seat.
Securing 67 percent of the votes from Brunswick, Pender and Columbus counties, Rabon defeated challenger Bettie Fennell, who secured 33 percent of the votes.
Rabon, a Southport veterinarian, won 7,340 votes in Brunswick County, compared to Fennell’s 2,705 votes.
Fennell previously ran for Senate in 2008, but lost to Sen. R.C. Soles Jr. Soles, the state’s longest-serving senator, who announced in December he would not seek re-election.
