  • Watch the heat when grilling vegetables to avoid lumps of carbon

I’ve collected a number of grilled recipes over the years, dividing them into entrees, side dishes and dessert categories. Outdoor grilling isn’t just for steaks, hamburgers or hot dogs. Try grilling combinations of different vegetables or even fruits.

Many vegetables do really well on a grill, but try to avoid those with a high water content, like cucumbers, celery or greens. Some of the best grilling vegetables are asparagus, eggplant, onions, a variety of peppers and even cabbage.

  • Transition times are great for taking stock of what happened during summer

Even though September has been fairly warm, the cooler days of autumn are upon us. We’ll soon be enjoying the brightly colored blooms of early “sasanqua” camellias and the spicy scent of osmanthus. These transition times are also great for taking stock of what happened during our long, hot summer.

    BRICK LANDING LGA

  • Red drum responding to any live bait

As fall creeps ever closer, anglers are enjoying some good fishing that is bound to burst out into great fishing soon. The biggest bite right now is on redfish. Some nice redfish have been landed recently as the big red drum have made their annual pre-fall season showing.

  • Fall is close, but not quite

You can’t deny the feeling of fall in the air. You likely know fall offers some of the best fishing the area sees, and as far as I’m concerned, it can’t come soon enough. However, it will still be another couple of weeks before the fall fishing really kicks into high gear.

  • Blessings come in all sizes and shapes

John O’Donahue wrote, “There is a kindness that dwells deep down in things; it presides everywhere, often in the places we least expect...something instinctive in us expects it.” His words brought me up short.
