  • Grand jury returns indictments

    The Brunswick County Superior Court under the direction of the Honorable Judge Ola M. Lewis with prosecutor Jon David and courtroom clerk Jill Fullwood adjudicated the following cases during a superior court grand jury session on July 11:

    Robert W. Beck, 22, of 1500 Green Lewis Road SE, Bolivia; felony possession of cocaine, possession drug paraphernalia.

    The following cases were adjudicated over four days of District Criminal Court on July 6, 7, 11 and 12 in Bolivia.

  • Board of education adopts $109 million budget

    BOLIVIA—Members of the Brunswick County Board of Education on Tuesday

    approved a $109 million budget for Brunswick County Schools.

    Board members OK’d the budget adopted four votes to one vote, with board member Bud Thorsen voting against the budget.

    Jessica Swencki, spokesperson for Brunswick County Schools, said the budget was in better shape than originally expected. State funding reductions were $2.1 million, far better than the $5.2 million reduction board members expected, Swencki said.

    In case you haven’t noticed, coupons—or as I like to refer to them, beautifully perforated money-saving gems—returned to the Beacon this week.

    That’s right, this week’s Beacon marks the return of the much-requested coupons back into your weekly newspaper. I doubt there’s anyone out there more excited than me.

    Don’t get me wrong, I’m no professional couponer—yet. But I’d consider myself at least slightly above average.
