  • Calabash man wanted on domestic violence charges turns self in

    A Calabash man wanted on domestic violence charges turned himself into the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office without incident on Sunday, Nov. 13. 

    Kenneth O'Neil Hill Jr., 34, of Marlowtown Road NW, was booked in the Brunswick County Detention Facility and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony first-degree kidnapping, felony second-degree kidnapping, felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female.

  • Trojans, Scorpions begin football playoffs Friday

    The West Brunswick football team is seeded No. 1 in the East in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 3AA state playoffs.

    The Trojans (8-3) will play Northern Guilford (4-7) on Friday, Nov. 18, at West (time to be set). Northern Guildford is the No. 8 seed in the Mideast.

    If West wins, it will play either Jacksonville, No. 5 in the East, or Westover, No. 4 in the Mideast, in a second-round game Nov. 25 at West.

    North Brunswick (7-4) is seeded No. 7 in the East in the Class 2AA playoffs.

  • Calabash businessman accused of beating dog to death

    A Calabash businessman is accused of beating a dog to death last month in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

    Police arrested 51-year-old Bryan Lee Livengood on Thursday, Nov. 10, and charged him with felony ill treatment of animals.

    Livengood, a retired Myrtle Beach, S.C., cab company employee, is known in Brunswick County for selling flags on Beach Drive near Hughes Family Campground overlooking the Calabash River.

    The following cases were adjudicated over five days of District Criminal Court on Oct. 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 in Bolivia.

  • Veterans Day Friday, Nov. 11

    Calabash Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7288 will conduct a Veterans Day Service at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Post at 900 Carter Drive SW in Calabash. On Nov. 12, Post members will distribute poppies in the community.

    American Legion Nocha White Post 503 at 10277 Beach Drive in Calabash will have a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.

    VFW Post 8866 at 573 Sabbath Home Road in Supply will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. sharp. Shallotte Mayor Walt Eccard will be the keynote speaker.

  • Leland police safely locate missing man

    Leland police have safely located 24-year-old Zachary Allen Chaney in Luling, La.

    Chaney was reported missing Thursday, Nov. 10.
