  • Two face murder charge after abused child dies more than 20 years later

    BOLIVIA — Two people are charged with murder in a child abuse case reported almost 21 years ago in Brunswick County.

    David Raefore Tripp Jr., 45, of Ash was arrested April 9 and Robyn Lynn Noffsinger, 41, was arrested April 10. Both are being held at the Brunswick County Detention Facility, each on $1 million bail.

  • New fire truck arrives in Ocean Isle Beach

    The newest addition to the Ocean Isle Beach Fire department has arrived: a Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inferno 107-foot, 4-inch Section Aerial Ladder Truck, which will assist the fire department in its continuous effort to secure the safety of residents and visitors to Ocean Isle Beach.

  • Coastal Ambassador training session April 18

    The North Carolina Coastal Federation’s April Southeast Coastal Ambassador training will be Part II of a series of meetings to discuss conservation work in the lower Cape Fear River basin. This training will take place at the Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center in Wrightsville Beach on April 18. An orientation for new members will begin at 5:30 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m.

  • Meetings mitigate flooding woes in Carolina Shores

    CAROLINA SHORES — A series of residential “tailgate meetings” last week addressed flood mapping and related concerns from citizens.

    The informal sessions took place April 4 at three neighborhood sites where stormwater runoff and flooding have been problems, on Northwest Drive, Oakbark Court and Sunfield Drive.

    The outdoor gatherings culminated with a community meeting at the end of the day at town hall.

    Grissettown Longwood Fire & Rescue’s Wine & Swine BBQ Cook-Off on BBQ Road heats up for a second year Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14, at Silver Coast Winery.

    Nine teams from throughout the region have signed up for this year’s cooking competition at the two-day event, which kicks off 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a friendly wing competition at the winery at 6680 Barbeque Road.

  • Brunswick Concert Band presents ‘Bandtastic!’ April 19 and 21

    The Brunswick Concert Band marches out “Bandtastic!,” its annual spring concert, in two performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Odell Williamson Auditorium at Brunswick Community College and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Hatch Auditorium in Caswell Beach.

    Under the direction of Tom Smicklas and Michael Stringer, the concert will feature favorites including "A Tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein” and “Frank Sinatra in Concert” along with several Sousa marches.

    Fraud on Wyndfall Drive.

  • Novant Health Brunswick Endoscopy Center readies for opening

    SUPPLY — Final touches are under way at the new Novant Health Brunswick Endoscopy Center that should be ready to open in just a few more weeks.

    Shelbourn Stevens, president of Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, along with endoscopy center administrator Lynette Pinkston, conducted a sneak-peek media preview of the new center at 13 Medical Campus Drive, Suite 101, last week.
