The Shallotte Middle School football team opened its season Sept. 9 by routing Chadbourn 54-12 at West Columbus High School.
SMS scored three times in the first quarter.
Greg Bell scored Shallotte’s first points on a 10-yard run.
Jamar Bethea scored on a 15-yard punt return and Markel Jones scored on the two-point conversion.
Bell scored on 25-yard run and Scottie Melvin kicked the extra point, putting SMS ahead 21-0.
In the second quarter, Jones scored on a 55-yard run. Melvin’s extra point put SMS ahead 28-0 at halftime.
