OCEAN ISLE BEACH—Tom Clifford repeated as champion of the Run for Food half marathon Saturday.
Clifford, a 27-year-old Wilmington resident, ran the 13-mile course in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 34 seconds, pace of 5:37 a mile. Clifford won the race last year in 1:11:45.
The weather was not at severe as it was last year, when 168 runners competed in wind-chill temperatures in the teens. This year, a brisk wind made the wind-chill temperature in the 30s—but that was comfortable enough for 232 runners in the seventh annual race.
