Leland police officers investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from patrol activity reports.

•Sherrill Kay Gilmore, 49, of 6514 Myrtle Grove Road, Wilmington, was arrested for shoplifting at the Piggly Wiggly on Village Road.

•Pursuant to a driver’s license checkpoint on Mount Misery Road, Jeffery Jamaal Simpson, 24, of 6209 Bells & Williams Road, Currie, was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Three lawsuits against the Brunswick County Board of Education and three former Brunswick County Schools employees have been voluntarily dismissed. They were refiled Monday.

Attorney Robert Tatum, who has law offices in Southport and Raleigh, said he refiled the lawsuits after the board of education’s attorney, Kathleen Tanner, filed a motion to dismiss the board from all cases. The motion states the board is protected by the doctrine of governmental immunity according to N.C. General Statute 115C-42.

The roundabout being constructed at the intersection of Causeway Drive and First Street in Ocean Isle Beach is near completion.

“The roundabout is on schedule,” Daisy Ivey, town administrator, said Tuesday at the town’s monthly meeting.

Construction crews were finishing paving Tuesday and Ivey said striping, sign placement and finishing touches should be complete by the end of Friday. A walk-through is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday of next week. The road will be open once the walk through is complete.

Aldermen are expected to meet with the consultant working on the towns vision plan April 2, town officials said.

The vision plan is a five-to-10 year plan to revitalize the downtown area by encouraging beautification as well as new commercial development.

The meeting with the board will be followed a couple of weeks later by a public unveiling of the plans rough draft, during which local residents will be able to give their final comments.
