Flag Day, an often-overlooked holiday, will be celebrated in Shallotte this Saturday.
Flag Day is June 14 and commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States. It was adopted on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The day is traditionally marked by parades in towns around the country.
This year Shallotte Elks Club 2854, in conjunction with Shallotte Fire Department, West Brunswick High School JROTC and Boy Scouts Troop 201, is holding a Flag Day Celebration at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 11, at the Shallotte Fire Department.
