OAK ISLAND—Members of the North Carolina National Guard are in Oak Island for two weeks conducting several training exercises.
“Operation Coastal Surge” is a series of hurricane training exercises that brought several National Guard units to the Cape Fear Regional Jetport for training from April 2-16.
On Thursday, April 7, National Guard members took part in a drill simulating a helicopter crash, in which several units participated.
