  • 2018 Women’s March planned for Jan. 20

    The 2018 Women’s March will take place Jan. 20 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

    Hosted by Grand Strand Action Together and the Coastal Carolina Coalition, the march will start at 11 a.m. at Anderson Park, 2000 N. Ocean Blvd., and conclude at Plyler Park, 1309 N. Ocean Blvd. The rally will begin at noon.

  • Sheriff’s office seeks stolen truck

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a teal 2002 Ford F350 XLF Power Stroke diesel truck stolen sometime between Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 in the 8100 block of River Road, Southport.

    According to a Facebook post, the tailgate of the truck has a unique pinstripe design that can also be found on the dashboard of the truck.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Brandon Fuller at 398-5335.

  • Local service dog honored with award

    BOILING SPRING LAKES— It didn’t take very long for Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue Capt. Nathan McConnell to realize the dog in the images projected onto the screen was his own service dog, Ember, during the sixth annual paws4people Family Reunion.

    Her photos were being shown because she had won an award for her work as a service dog with paws4people, a nonprofit foundation with an office in Wilmington that helps pair those in need with assistance dogs.

    “By the second picture I knew it was her,” he said.

  • West Brunswick’s Bellamy competes in holiday bowl game

    Most kids spent the winter holiday break unwrapping gifts and showing their buddies what they received through Snapchat,

    For West Brunswick freshman Jesse Bellamy, he spent several days in New Orleans competing against some of the best underclassmen football players in the country in the All-American Bowl in New Orleans.

    Bellamy, who helped West Brunswick’s junior varsity football team finish with a record-setting 9-1 record this past season, was selected to compete in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.

  • “Polar Splash” scheduled in Boiling Spring Lakes

    The Spring Lake Shiver Polar Splash is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, in Boiling Spring Lakes. The event, which will take place at Spring Lake, raises money for the Jack Helbig Foundation. The money raised through the event will be used for children’s water safety programs. All participants and last-minute registrants should arrive at noon and the splash is scheduled for 1 p.m. Teams and family-friendly costumes are encouraged. You can register for the splash at raceentry.com or jackhelbig.org. Event organizers hope to make the Polar Splash an annual event.
