Sunset Beach OKs draft cabana restrictions

SUNSET BEACH — Town council has approved a “compromised” draft measure that, if approved, will allow cabanas on the beach with new restrictions.

Councilwoman Carol Scott proposed new guidelines at the Jan. 17 meeting to change the earliest allowable time to erect beach tents from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., prohibiting cabanas on the beach between First and 27th streets and increasing the distance between tents from 10 feet to 12 feet.

The draft will be considered for final vote at council’s next meeting Feb. 6.
