Dog days (Latin: “diēs caniculārēs”; proper Southern pronunciation: “daggone dawg daze”) are upon us.
You can feel it in the humid, “sultry” air, as Wikipedia poetically describes it. Southerners and Southern transplants alike just tend to think of them as some more of those stinkin’ hot days of August.
But, if you think about it, dog days are also a fine time for all things canine. National Dog Day, in fact, is just around the bend on Aug. 26.
