As someone who has known John Floyd since we were both small boys playing football in my aunt’s front yard, competing against each other on the Little League diamond, playing side by side on the football field in high school, and as someone who watched his successful college career at ECU and his very successful coaching career afterward, I was elated when I read he had been hired as athletic director once again at West Brunswick. I knew he had finally come home to what he loved.

To the editor: The other day I saw the movie, “Swing Vote.” It wasn’t a particularly great film. There was some not-so-subtle political satire, which was amusing.

The improbable plot has a presidential election coming down to the decision of a single voter, and that voter is clueless on issues. The candidates then spend 10 days trying to win over this man to their side.

In the course of doing this, they both pander to him to the extent the Republican becomes an environmentalist and the Democrat takes an anti-immigration position.

To the editor: I enjoyed the article by Fred David titled “The Pirate Years 1690-1720 at Ocean Isle Beach.”

In his story, he wrote three pirates who operated in the Ocean Isle Beach area in 1720 were caught and hanged. They were Calico Jack Rackham and two female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

I just finished watching the History Channel, and the show featured pirates who sailed the Caribbean. The show stated the above pirates were sentence to hang but only Rackham was actually hanged.

To the editor: Bravo, John Kinlaw for standing tall and tough in the face of adversity with the bullying tactics of San Rio developers, Wakefield Coastal.

In your position as an elected Shallotte alderman, thank you for standing your ground for the good of Brunswick County, and all of its property owners and residents.
