To the editor: Generally speaking, I read the editorials with an open mind. It seems the majority of them are from readers complaining about one thing or another (politics or some issue to do with schools).

My remarks are in response to “Reward teachers” submitted by Brenda Davis and “Remembering to respect elders” by Michael Darby. I have been a subscriber to the Beacon since April 1989 and feel that these are two of the best editorial articles in all those years.

To the editor: I read with interest your front-page article in a recent paper, “Middle school to be named Cedar Grove.”

I first want to say thank you to Scott Milligan and Shirley Babson for their commitment to all of the people in the Lockwood Folly community who will have children and grandchildren attending the soon-to-be-new middle school.

Too bad Mr. Hobbs was not as committed to his original thoughts on naming the school.

To the editor: In two short weeks, we will once again be making the trip to Ocean Isle Beach just as we have for the last 25 years

The “kids” fly in from several distant points across the country and come with the same eagerness for the beach as when they were younger.

All of us are thrilled to know we will once again be able to see and enjoy the full expanse of the beach. Thank you town council for bringing back the beach for everyone.

To the editor: Once again, Sen. R.C. Soles Jr. has failed to protect property owners by signing a petition that would allow for a forced annexation bill to be heard in the Senate.

The bill provides for a nine-month moratorium on forced annexations while the General Assembly studies the impact on residents.

Soles’ refusal to sign the petition indicates he once again votes in lockstep with liberals like Sen. Tony Rand. Soles doesn’t care about his constituents; he only cares about retaining power in the Senate.
