To the editor: It has been a little more than two weeks since the Village at Calabash lost its District 1 status in the town of Carolina Shores.

You would think the decision to re-district us should have put an end to bad feelings between our community and the town. Guess again.

The feeling’s this community has runs deeper than just district status. When we were annexed five years ago, we were assured of the same services as the community annexing us. The only thing that was guaranteed was, “nothing is guaranteed.”

To the editor: I find it hard to believe a dog park seems to be so important, when our children who do not participate in organized sports have absolutely no place to ride bikes, roller skate, skateboard, etc.

My grandson has to be driven 35 miles each way to skateboard in either Wilmington or Myrtle Beach, S.C. He is not the only one. There is no place in Shallotte for them to skate or bike.

We have a beautiful park, terrific for soccer or baseball, a tennis court and a basketball court. No bikes or skates allowed. We desperately need someplace for teenagers.

To the editor: How odd: An open-minded, even-keeled journalist such as Renee Sloan castigating a few presidential candidates for misstatements in public.

I guess she was too busy traveling the 57 states and visiting Auschwitz with Obama’s uncle to focus on his mistakes.

I’ll paraphrase her last sentence and offer it back to her as this: Engage your brain before you pick up your pen. Or else, play fair!

To the editor: “Ocean Isle Beach voted one of the best.” Sounds great, doesn’t it?

I have lived on a canal lot for seven years and have owned it for eight. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was pleased to find a nice island with friendly people, but also a fair amount of greenery on both ends of the island.

Soon I learned on the east end there was a small black bear, some deer and an assortment of wildlife. Among these were the dreaded feral cats that people don’t realize help to control the rat population.
