To the editor: I have kept quiet up until now, but seeing it in the Brunswick County tax budget has made me want to speak up.

Whose idea was it to build a Brunswick County senior center in Southport?

What percentage of Brunswick County’s seniors live in the Southport area? Whatever that percentage, they are the seniors with the most revenue available. How many of the other seniors in the county can afford the gas to go to Southport to take advantage of a senior center?

I read with interest the article describing the budgetary requirements of Carolina Shores pertaining to police and speed bumps. It was interesting to see $50,000 referred to as a “drop in the bucket” and an outlay of a “huge amount” mentioned for future police establishment.

I see Willie Sloan has filed a complaint based on some type of impropriety by the Democratic Party regarding its voting process for the position of sheriff of Brunswick County.

Mr. Sloan, I don’t know you personally, but based on what came out in the newspapers about your “criminal charges,” even though you’re quick to point out you were “never convicted” it leaves no doubt in my mind John Ingram is the better candidate.

There is a South American country that is home to a small population of relatively poor, yet very peaceful people; however, for all their material lack and their peaceful nature, most all of their buildings do afford iron bars that cover every opening, for among them dwell some that are not so kind and not so gentle.
