To the editor: I would like to express my concern about Dixie Youth baseball.

Each child pays to play on a team and learn how to play, good sportsmanship and how to set examples for others. This is hard to do when the coaches don’t set good examples in front of them.

I have been following my grandson from T-ball, coach pitch, minor and now majors. My grandson, along with three more gets, get to play one inning, sometimes maybe two, and they rotate the same position.

The other kids play most of the game and rotate around the field.

To the editor: Our forefathers bravely went to war against Great Britain for what they felt to be excessive and unjustified taxation.

Now some 200 years later we, the residents of Brunswick County, are experiencing an almost identical situation.

Does this sound overly dramatic? Not to the young people who are scrambling to find work or keep their jobs and put food on the table, in addition to paying high property taxes or having to deal with unreasonably high rent increases because the landlord’s property taxes are sky high.

To the editor: While visiting good friends in North Carolina, we discovered our county commissioner from Maryland was seeking to serve the people of Brunswick County.

Our loss is definitely your gain.

Paul Swartz served Washington County, Md., with dignity, integrity and dedication like no other county commissioner has ever done.

I can honestly say without a doubt Paul Swartz was and is a jewel.

If you elect Paul Swartz, he will prove everything I said and more.

To the editor: I left our town meeting last night (April 22) very disappointed. Our mayor monopolized the meeting.

Only one commissioner had the nerve to give an opinion and he was “cut off at the pass.”

The other four commissioners seemed to have no opinions or were just waiting for the mayor to tell them what to vote on. It is a shame our government on our small island appears to be run by only one man.

Now I am wondering why we voted and elected the five extra people.
