I knew when I first heard Donald Trump say Mexicans were rapists (and more), I knew he was even more hateful than he was on his TV show, “The Apprentice.” He seems to love Donald Trump; he is narcissistic; his egotism is even larger than his mouth. His “You’re fired!” was delivered with so much abhorrence and glee, I wondered why any of the “apprentices” would agree to submit to such a “reality” show.
Recently, a voter identification verification bill was passed in North Carolina (voter ID law). Acceptable IDs were available free at numerous locations with help offered if needed. In the election this fall, a person would provide the ID to show they are who they say they are and eligible to vote.
The NAACP protests the voter ID requirement as placing an unfair barrier to poor and minority folks. Some people’s mindset is rooted in the past segregation era. The rest of the country apparently has moved on.
Congressman David Rouzer is misleading Brunswick County voters about Social Security in answering questions at his open houses around the county.
He has taken a pledge to never raise income taxes on high earners, even to fight terrorism. He does blame the resulting debt from fighting terrorism on Social Security, which he calls a major cause of the debt. Social Security taxes bring in an extra $400 billion every year, did last year and will again this year.
I have attended the Calabash town meeting as I do every year while on vacation. Calabash always seems like a nice place to retire.
At the meeting, the commissioners and the mayor were talking about implementing a new website for the town at a cost of $5,000 to $11,000. One of the commissioners said this was not included in the budget for this year. I am glad one of the commissioners is concerned about budgets!
Once again, our hearts have been warmed by the generous response to our Supplies for Success project to gather needed school supplies for Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary School students. Thousands of pencils, hundreds of notebooks, crayons, glue sticks and scissors, along with scores of markers, erasers, rulers and other items that were donated by caring residents and visitors. All of these items will play an important role in aiding students to be successful in learning during this school year.
I know exactly what will happen with her. It’s worse than what I don’t know will happen with him.
If Hillary Rodham Clinton were to be elected president of the United States, the fundamentals of the nation’s foundation would be irretrievably destroyed, a disintegration already in the making with the Obama administration.
Brunswick County has placed a $152 million bond referendum for education on this year’s ballot. Don’t wait until you go to vote to learn about this very important issue. Visit the schools’ website and educate yourself.
