 Leah Inscore won the 30th annual Sudan Daredevils Flounder Tournament, catching a 7.21-pound flounder. Crewmembers were Hank Martinez and Fred Davis. Inscore won $1,500 for catching the largest flounder.

The tourney, based from the Shallotte Point Volunteer Fire Department, is a fundraiser by the Sudan Daredevils of the South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club.

Other results:

Second prize: $1,000 for second-largest fish, Nita Starnes, 7.04 pounds.

This week the pinnacle of offshore tournament fishing in Brunswick County arrives by way of the Jolly Mon King Mackerel Tournament. Brunswick County Schools’ decision to go to a staggered start schedule threw off Communities in Schools after school program plans.

But CIS has reorganized and expanded its services to provide before-school and after-school programs in the new school year.

“For the last several years we have operated after-school child care programs from the time schools released (students) until 6 p.m.,” CIS director Kathy Smith said.
