Tolley deserves recognition for...

Letter to the Editor:
 Lt. Tommy Tolley, of Brunswick County  Animal Protective Services, is to be commended for inviting a local TV news team to film the facility and discuss the problem of the number of cats brought in to the shelter each day.  
In a single day recently, over 80 cats were brought in, far more than are being adopted.   In the report, aired June 13, Tolley pleaded with citizens to be responsible pet owners by getting cats and dogs spayed or neutered.  

Calabash EMS open house Saturday

Calabash Volunteer EMS will have an open house 1-5 p.m. this coming Saturday.

The open house will take place at the EMS station at 9031 Beach Drive in Calabash. The public is invited.

Answers sought after another...

The death of a child is sad enough. But when a child dies at the hands of someone else with hardly a hint of explanation, it’s horrifying.
Within a little over a year’s time frame, that’s exactly what has happened in Shallotte. Two small children—a 3-year-old and a 4-month-old baby—have died with little to no information provided about the circumstances leading to their deaths.
