Christian Orion Russ, 24, of Longwood Road in Longwood, was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 12, and charged with two felony counts each of forgery of an instrument, uttering a forged instrument, receiving stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretense, identity theft, exploiting disabled/elderly, conspiracy, receiving money improperly from a bank machine and depositing money into a banking machine.

Danny Gale Chestnutt’s truck was found overturned in floodwaters near Gores Chapel on Sunday, Oct. 9, in Columbus County. His body was discovered about 50 feet from 7 Creeks Highway in Nakina at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, Columbus County Assistant Coroner William Hannah said.
I received a copy of a handout that Brunswick County schools recently sent home with all the children in the district on its proposed $152 million bond. They don’t use the words “vote for the bond” but they are skating dangerously close. I am concerned about this because it seems biased for the bond using our tax dollars and our children to promote it.
CALABASH — The town board of commissioners approved modified plans and a preliminary plat for Devaun Park at a special called meeting and workshop Oct. 6 after residents in the upscale community expressed concerns about a lack of promised amenities by its founder.
Founder and developer Vaughn Stanaland outlined a revised master plan for Devaun Park’s Phase 6B. Modified plans call for lower-density construction of 40 single-family units instead of the previous 103 single- and multi-family units outlined in original plans.
