CALABASH—An Internet sweepstakes company has filed a civil summons against the town of Calabash, Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram and District Attorney Jon David.

Internet Café & Sweepstakes of Calabash, at 1224 Riverview Drive, seeks a declaration that privilege license fees charged by the town over the past three years violate the state constitution and a mandatory injunction that would require Calabash to refund an estimated $76,900, plus 6 percent interest annually, paid to the town by the corporation also referred to as ICS-C.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing any more information regarding the death of a 4-month-old baby in Shallotte last week.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Emily Flax said this week Sheriff John Ingram stated his office would not be providing any more information about the case due to its sensitive nature.

Randy Lee Richardson II, 19, of 1515 Pelican Place in Shallotte, was brought into custody at 1:45 a.m. last Wednesday, June 5, on a charge of murder of 4-month-old Colton Tillman Richardson.

Christine Muniz is thankful she’ll be able to see 18-year-old daughter Megan graduate after suffering a life-threatening asthma/allergy attack at her Shallotte Point home during the early-morning hours of June 2.

Muniz and her family credit Megan for rushing to her mother’s aid, using CPR skills she was taught at a Saturday class last December to help save Muniz’s life.

SUNSET BEACH—Shortly after noon Sunday, Lee Gushman arrived home from church just in time to find her 12-year-old son, Connor, in the lake and calling for help.

“He said, ‘Mommy, Mommy, help!’” said Connor’s mom, Lee Gushman.

Without fearing for his own safety or the possibility of lurking alligators, Connor had waded barefooted right into Lake Medcalf to rescue a baby deer that had wandered into the water.
