  • Lady Dolphins give gifts, take victory

    Generosity was short-lived for Brunswick Community College’s women’s basketball team during its venture into international basketball on Jan. 3.
    The Lady Dolphins gave the Australian Traveling Team gifts and then took the ball away 26 times on their way to a 73-47 win.
    BCC’s players gave the visiting Aussies each a 6-inch long stuffed-animal dolphin, some blue and some gray, as a souvenir. The guests were also welcomed with the playing of the Australian national anthem before “The Star Spangled Banner.”

  • BCC battles team to final minute

    Brunswick Community College’s men’s basketball team took undefeated and nationally sixth-ranked Palm Beach State down to the wire before falling 78-72 in the M&M Mini Storage Holiday Basketball Classic on Dec. 18.
    After getting manhandled in the first half, the Dolphins came out of the locker room with a vengeance—and a full-court press that stymied the Panthers.

  • Lenoir beats Lady Dolphins on last-second layup

     Dominique Graham made a steal and a layup in the final seconds to give Lenoir Community College a stunning 63-62 victory over Brunswick Community College in an NJCAA Division II Region 10 basketball opener Dec. 3.

    BCC had taken a 62-61 lead on a running jump shot by Tyesha McLean with about 18 seconds left in the game at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym. BCC was inbounding the ball in the final seconds of an apparent victory when Graham made the steal and scored.

  • BCC beats Wilkes in volleyball

    The Brunswick Community College volleyball team beat Wilkes 25-8, 25-9, 25-23 on Oct. 8. Crystal Hicks had seven kills and four blocks. Miriah Milliken had seven assists. Kristen Love and Breana Gause had five aces. Griffin Hewett had three kills, three aces and three digs. Jennette Taylor had four aces.
    The same day, BCC lost to Catawba Valley 9-25, 18-25, 10-25. Brittany Spivey had three kills. Crystal Hicks had three kills and four blocks. Shanita Hampton had three kills.

  • Exhausted Dolphins lose in title game

         The Brunswick Community College baseball team reached the title game of the NJCAA Division II Region 10 championship tournament by beating Lenoir 4-3 Monday morning but the Dolphins’ season ended in a 10-1 loss that afternoon to Catawba Valley Community College.

    BCC (33-22) had to beat Catawba twice to advance to the NJCAA World Series. But Catawba scored three runs in the first inning in taking a 3-1 lead and Catawba’s Plyler hit a three-run home run in the third in extending the lead to 7-1.

  • BCC splits doubleheader, will open region tourney Friday

    The Brunswick Community College baseball team split a region doubleheader Saturday at Danville, Va., winning the first game 6-4 in nine innings and losing the second 4-1 in seven innings.
    In the first game, each team made four errors. BCC finished with 12 hits. Alex Sasser was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Josh Hardwick, Jonathan Corbett, Tyler Ruffin and Matthew Archer each had two hits. Hardwick hit a triple and scored in BCC’s two-run eighth inning, which gave it a 6-3 lead.

  • BCC splits with Salkehatchie, Pitt

     Michael Green threw a nine-inning three-hitter but the Brunswick Community College baseball team lost 1-0 to USC Salkehatchie in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader Saturday.

    Green struck out five, hit one and walked one (the first batter he faced).

    USC scored its run in the top of the ninth on a single, a stolen base, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.

    The Dolphins loaded the bases in the eighth with two outs and in the ninth with one out but were unable to score.

    In the eighth, the inning ended on a line out.

  • BCC splits weekend doubleheader with Surry

     On Saturday in Dobson, the Brunswick Community College baseball team beat Surry Community College 5-1 in nine innings and lost 6-5 in seven innings.

    In the first game, Bryson Benton was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning in giving BCC a 3-0 lead. Tyler Ruffin was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jonathan Corbett was 2-for-5 with one RBI. He and Ruffin drove in runs in the seventh inning as BCC took a 5-1 lead.

    Winning pitcher Michael Green gave up six hits and one run in 8.2 innings. He walked two and struck out seven.

  • BCC sweeps Rockingham

    Aaron Champion threw a seven-inning four-hitter as the Brunswick Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader Saturday against Rockingham Community College, winning the first game 14-6 in seven innings and the second game 8-0 behind Champion’s four-hitter.
    Champion, a left-hander, struck out two and walked one.
    Alex Sasser was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ryan Hill was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
    In the first game, the Dolphins scored five runs in the fifth inning in taking a 7-4 lead. BCC scored three in the sixth and four in the seventh to end the game.
