  • Lady Dolphins continue second-half resurgence

     BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team continued its second-half resurgence by beating Spartanburg Methodist College 65-50 Sunday, Feb. 22, in a non-region basketball game at BCC.

    For BCC, Brianna Baham scored 22 points, Courtney Pearsall 13 and Anshonee Addison 11. Other BCC scorers: Baylee Simpson five, Asha Graham two, D’Asya Wilson two, A.J. Mays two, Monica Smalls two, Jasmine Corbett three and Hailey Czigler three.

  • BCC men lose to D-2 No. 4 Richard Bland

     BOLIVIA —  Richard Bland College, ranked No. 4 in NJCAA Division II men’s basketball, beat Brunswick Community College 88-65 in a non-region game Wednesday, Feb. 4.

    The Statesmen improved to 21-3. BCC dropped to 10-14.

    For BCC, JacQues Chambers scored 13 points and Robin Moore 12.

    Other BCC scorers: Jaquan Grissett seven, Carson Smith seven, Kevin Rowell seven,

    Cortell Busby four, Taylor Buffkin seven, Najee Pritchett eight.

  • Cape Fear defeats BCC in men’s basketball

     BOLIVIA — Cape Fear Community College beat Brunswick Community College 70-70 in a NJCAA Division I Region 10 men’s basketball game Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    For BCC (0-3, 9-11), Carson Smith scored 18 points, Jaquan Grissett 17 and Taylor Buffkin 10. JacQues Chambers scored eight points, Robin Moore six, Cortell Busby five, Natjee Pritchett four and Kevin Rowell two. 

    The Dolphins trailed 38-30 at the half, but after a technical foul four straight free throws by Smith gave BCC a 40-38 lead.

  • BCC women lose to Cape Fear

     BOLIVIA — Cape Fear beat host BCC 76-64 in a women’s NJCAA Division II Region 10 basketball game Thursday, Jan. 15.

    For BCC (1-5, 5-9), freshman D’Asya Wilson scored 18 points, sophomore Monica Smalls 15 and freshman Brianna Baham 13. Anshonee Addison scored six points and Courtney Pearsall, Baylee Simpson and Asha Graham scored four points each.

    The Dolphins led 11-10 with 11 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first half but the Sea Devils rallied and outscored BCC 16-2 in taking a 26-13 lead with 4:14 left.

  • BCC defeats Davidson County Community College

     

    BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team beat Davidson County Community College 96-90 Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatic Center gym.

    For BCC (8-7), JacQues Chambers scored 21 points, Carson Smith 18, Robin Moore 15 and Kevin Rowell 13. Taylor Buffkin and Jaquan Grissett each scored nine points, Parker Helgerson six and Cortell Busby five.

    Davidson, an NJCAA Division III team, dropped to 11-5.

  • Lady Dolphins finish 1-1 in Holiday Basketball Classic

      BCC lost its opening-round game 60-38 to Community College of Baltimore County — Dundalk, Md. on Dec.18.

    The game was tied 14-all with 7:14 left in the first half, but CCBC led 31-22 at the half. Baham scored 11 of BCC’s 22 points, and nine of those points were free throws.

    CCBC dominated the second half, stretching its lead to 39-22. It led 50-29 with 8:40 left and BCC never rallied.

  • Pressure defense leads to BCC victory

     BOLIVIA — A loose strand of nylon net dangled from the hoop on the Brunswick Community College end of the court.

    But there wasn’t anything loose about BCC’s pressure defense as the Dolphins beat Wake Tech 77-62 in the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym Nov. 25.

  • Dolphins open basketball season with victory

     BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team opened its season by beating South Carolina Sports Academy 110-94 Nov. 4 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    For BCC, Carson Smith hit four 3-pointers and scored 24 points. Cortell Busby scored 16 points and Robin Moore, Najee Pritchett and Kevin Rowell each scored 14.

  • Dolphin basketball teams set to begin seasons

     The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team celebrates its 20th year of existence this season, and Walter Shaw enters his 15th season as its head coach.

    The Dolphins finished the 2013-14 Region 10 regular season 7-3 and in a tie for first. They lost to Cape Fear in the Region 10 championship tournament and finished 20-12. Shaw, who guided BCC to its 10th 20-victory season in 14 years, was the Region 10 Coach of the Year.

  • BCC finishes 2-1 in weekend volleyball

     BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College volleyball team played three matches over the weekend at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    Against Guildford Tech on Sunday, BCC won 25-27, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22.

    BCC trailed 8-1 in the first and fought off two game points before losing.

    The second game was tied 22-22 before BCC gained a point off an errant serve. An errant Guilford hit and a kill by Katrina Brown won the game.
