  • Baseball team swept in opening series

    For Brunswick Community College, it was a rude welcome to the world of college baseball.

    The Dolphins opened their inaugural season last weekend by losing three consecutive games at USC Sumter. They committed 21 errors in the series and were outscored 34-6.

    “I saw a lot of jitters,” BCC coach Robbie Allen said Monday. “We have to get better defensively. We’re not going to win many ballgames making that many errors.”

  • BCC Dolphins continue on their record-setting run

    It seems like there’s just no stopping the Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team.

    The Dolphins extended their winning streak to 11 games last weekend by sweeping a two-game road trip to western North Carolina.

    BCC crushed Rockingham Community College 112-63 on Saturday and followed it up with an 89-79 victory Sunday at Guilford Technical Community College.

  • BCC hoops still rolling

    Watch out for the Brunswick Community College buzz saw.

    The men’s basketball team continued to chew up the competition last Saturday, posting a 100-92 victory at Clinton (S.C.) Junior College.

    It was the ninth consecutive win for the Dolphins, who are cruising toward what could be their best season ever at 11-1 in the Carolinas Junior College Conference and 21-2 overall.

    BCC coach Walter Shaw said Saturday’s game went back and forth before the Dolphins pulled away at the end.

  • Dolphins thump Devils for 20th win

    SHALLOTTE—Fresh off an overtime win against the defending conference champion, the Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team was ripe for a letdown.

    But there was no letdown—just another beat-down—when the Dolphins hosted archrival Cape Fear Community College last Wednesday in the West Brunswick High School gym.

    Myles Holley and Leon Spencer combined for 33 points and 22 rebounds in the 98-77 victory. It was the eighth win in a row for BCC, which improved to 10-1 in the Carolinas Junior College Conference and 20-2 overall.

  • BCC women drop three more on road

    The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team’s losing streak reached nine in a row this past week as it dropped three Carolinas Junior College Conference road games.

    At week’s end, the Lady Dolphins were winless in league play (0-16) and 2-17 overall with their last win coming Dec. 13 against the Mount Olive College JV.

  • Lady Dolphins drop two to Wilkes

    The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team lost back-to-back road games last weekend and may have lost one of its few remaining players to injury.

    Tiara Brodie twisted her knee during Saturday’s 84-72 setback at Wilkes Community College and did not play in Sunday’s rematch, which Wilkes won 58-53.

    Brodie, a freshman guard from Goldsboro, joined the team earlier this month after sitting out the first semester. But she played in just two games before re-aggravating a knee injury that has required surgery in the past.

  • BCC rallies past Rockingham

    SHALLOTTE—As one Rockingham Community College coach was heard muttering upon leaving the West Brunswick High School gym Saturday evening, “You can’t win games if you play only 20 minutes.”

    The Brunswick Community College Dolphins proved that wrong, storming from 20 points down to take a 103-79 victory in a Carolinas Junior College Conference game.

    The visiting Eagles (0-3 conference, 6-5 overall) led 41-21 with 6:24 to play in the first half. The Dolphins (3-1 conference, 13-2 overall) cut the margin to 12 points, 52-40, at the intermission.

  • BCC Lady Dolphins now down to six players

    SHALLOTTE—Brunswick Community College women’s basketball coach Kenneth White didn’t have to look too far down his bench Saturday in the Carolinas Junior College Conference game with Louisburg College at the West Brunswick High School gym.

    He only had one reserve and assistant coach Keisha Lighty on the bench with him.

    The defending conference champion Lady Hurricanes romped to a 101-40 victory to improve to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in the league. BCC fell to 2-9 overall and is winless in eight conference games.
