  • Atkinson’s assists lead BCC to victory over Lenoir

      After splitting two games against top-10 teams at the Panhandle Shootout in Marianna, Fla., the Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team returned home to face Lenoir Community College Dec. 8. Sophomore guard Devon Atkinson scored 13 points and had 12 assists as BCC rallied to beat LCC 94-84 and improved to 6-5.

  • BCC men upset No. 3 Northwest Florida 73-72

     The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team defeated previously unbeaten No. 3 Northwest Florida State College 73-72 Dec. 3 in the Panhandle Classic in Marianna, Fla.

    “It is the highest rated team we have ever beaten,” BCC coach Walter Shaw said. “And it is probably the biggest win in the history of the school outside of winning the region tournament championship (last season) and going to (the national tournament) in Hutchinson.

    “We made a name for ourselves.”

     The BCC women’s basketball team may attract as much attention this year not only for who is shooting jump shots but also for who is sitting courtside with the team.

  • BCC women rout Caldwell

     SUPPLY—Alexis Jones scored 22 points and Shaquitta Jones 15 as the Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team beat Caldwell Community College 75-49 Saturday on Walter Shaw Court at the Dinah E Gore Aquatic & Fitness Center.

    Danielle Blunt scored 12 points as the Dolphins improved to 2-0.

    BCC trailed 8-7 with 11 minutes, 17 secods left in the first half but back-to-back layups by Blunt put the Dolphins ahead 19-12 with 6:47 left.

  • BCC baseball players work with Habitat for Humanity

     BCC student-athletes worked with the Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity earlier the month in putting finishing touches on the outside of a house.

    “Our athletes are trying to give back to the community,” said Robbie Allen, the BCC athletics director.

    Helping on this day were BCC baseball players. But other athletes are also involved.

    “It’s a mixture of our athletic department,” Allen said.

  • BCC’s Faircloth, Alford sign with four-year colleges

     SUPPLY—Two more Brunswick Community College baseball players have signed letters of intent.

    On Nov. 17, third baseman John Faircloth signed with Charleston Southern University and outfielder Drew Alford signed with UNC Pembroke.

    The signings bring to six the number of Dolphin baseball players who recently have signed with four-year colleges.

    In 50 games last season, Faircloth batted .364 with a team-high 17 doubles. He had 39 RBIs and hit two home runs. His fielding percentage was .926. He had 89 assists, second most on the team.

  • BCC wins opener in BCC Classic

     

     

    SUPPLY—Johnston Community College missed a score-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds as Brunswick Community College beat JCC 80-77 Saturday in the BCC Classic at the Dinah E Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center.

    Four Dolphins scored at least 11 points in the victory: Chris Smith, 16; Terneil Rhodes, 15; Alan-Michael Thompson, 12; freshman Steve Johnson, 11.

  • UNC Wilmington signs BCC center McGowan

     SUPPLY—The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team has not played a game this season, but it already has something of which to be proud.

    Chelsea McGowan, a 6-foot-2 center from Cedar Point, signed a letter of intent Nov. 10 to continue her career at UNC Wilmington.

  • Four BCC baseball players sign letters of intent

     SUPPLY—Baseball players are measured by statistics, so it was expected Brunswick Community College baseball coach Robbie Allen would mention a meaningful statistic about the four BCC players who signed Nov. 10 with four-year colleges.

    Joshua Powell signed with Coastal Carolina, a team that lost last season in the NCAA Super Regional to eventual national champion South Carolina. Jay Cannon signed with East Carolina. Tyler Barnes signed with UNC Pembroke. Daniel Oliver signed with Mount Olive, the NCAA Division II national champion in 2008.
