  • BCC, Lakeland split baseball games with dramatic endings

     The Brunswick Community College and Lakeland Community College (Kirtland, Ohio) baseball teams played a doubleheader March 14 with dramatic endings.

    In the first game, Laker freshman first baseman Drew Kissinger used all of his 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame in lofting a three-run home run to deep center field—the final three runs in a 10-run seventh-inning rally and a 14-12 victory.

  • BCC’s Michael Green throws second straight no-hitter

     Michael Green’s bid for a second straight perfect game ended when he hit the first Patrick Henry Community College batter he faced Saturday, but by the end of the eighth inning he had completed a second straight no-hitter. Until his last two starts, Green had never thrown a no-hitter.

    BCC (9-5) beat the Patriots 9-1 in eight innings, and Green struck out seven batters.

    Green, a sophomore who has signed with Winthrop University, threw a five-inning perfect game on March 4. Against Patrick Henry, Green walked three and hit two.

  • BCC men win on Sophomore Day

     On Sophomore Day, sophomores Marcus Graham and Steve Johnson led a second-half rally as the Brunswick Community College basketball team beat USC Sumter 92-87 Sunday on Walter Shaw Court at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    Graham finished with 28 points and Johnson 11. Tre Francisco scored 19 points, sophomore Kameko Walls 13 and sophomore Alex Tucker 11.

    BCC trailed 44-37 at the half but Graham scored 13 points and Johnson scored 10 as the Dolphins took a 69-55 lead with nine minutes left.

  • BCC rallies in ninth, wins in 10th against Stanly

     The Brunswick Community College baseball team beat Stanly Community College 6-5 in 10 innings Saturday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the score 5-5 and then scoring the winning run in the 10th on sophomore center fielder Ryan Collins’ double.

    The score was tied 3-3 in the eighth but Stanly scored on a run on a wild pitch and scored in the ninth on a home run.

  • VIDEO INCLUDED BCC men defeat Aiken Tech, 80-76

     The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team avenged a 30-point loss to Aiken Tech by beating the Knights 80-76 Sunday on Walter Shaw Court in the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics gym.

    The Knights hit eight 3-pointers in the first half but BCC held them to none in the second half. The BCC defense held the Knights to three points in the final 3 minutes, 21 seconds.

    For BCC (13-11), Steve Johnson scored 25 points, Quinton Morrow 15, Kameko Walls 11 and Marcus Graham 10.

  • Dolphins defeat Spartanburg Prep

     Quinton Morrow made two steals in the final minute to help Brunswick Community College beat Spartanburg Prep 68-57 Sunday on Walter Shaw Court at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    For BCC (12-10), Steve Johnson scored 13 points, Morrow 11 and Alex Tucker nine.

    BCC led 41-28 at the half and maintained the 13-point lead as Tucker scored seven of the Dolphins’ first 10 points. Tucker later suffered an apparent leg injury and did not return.

  • BCC beats Albemarle 6-2

     The Brunswick Community College baseball team won two of three games over the weekend against College of the Albemarle.

    BCC split two seven-inning games Saturday, winning 9-2 and losing 4-3. Starter Brock Holmes left the game with a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning. Albemarle scored four runs and held off a BCC rally in the seventh.

    BCC beat Albemarle 6-2 in a nine-inning game Sunday. BCC scored all six runs in the fourth inning.

  • BCC basketball teams lose in tourneys

    The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball season ended Friday in a 67-66 loss to Clinton in a semifinal of the Region 10 championship tournament at Voorhees College.

    BCC had beaten Clinton 79-72 on Feb. 5 and 86-79 on Feb. 13.

    Clinton, seeded last and with an 8-18 record entering the tourney, built a lead against BCC with an energetic running game and more shooting attempts from the paint instead of under the basket.

  • BCC basketball teams win

     Lattrell Royster made two free throws with 13.7 seconds left as the Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team beat Denmark Tech 78-75 Saturday.

    After Royster’s free throws, the Panthers missed a 3-pointer and a rebound in the last home game of the season to be played on Walter Shaw Court at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center.

  • BCC basketball teams sweep Clinton

     In a game that was a rematch of the 2010 Region X men’s basketball championship game, Brunswick Community College prevailed again, beating Clinton 86-79 Sunday on Walter Shaw Court at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center.
