  • Milliken wins for third time at Myrtle Beach Speedway
    By Bill Hennecy   Special to The Beacon MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—Justin Milliken scored his third win of the season Saturday in the Whelen All-American Late Model series at the NASCAR-sanctioned Myrtle Beach Speedway.

    Soccer camps The Tetra Brazil Soccer Academy and British Soccer Camps will be offered this summer in Brunswick County. This camp is run in conjunction with Boiling Spring Lakes Parks and Recreation, Brunswick County Parks and Recreation, Oak Island Parks and Recreation and Southport-Oak Island Youth Soccer Association.
  • Identity Promotions sponsors softball team
    Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce member Identity Promotions, of Little River, S.C., is sponsoring a women’s softball team that will play at Grand Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the second straight year. Last year, the team finished fourth in the nine-team league. The season began June 11 and will end around the last week of August with a double-elimination tournament. Chamber staff member Janette Fernandes is the coach.

    Staff report Waccamaw 3A/2A Conference coaches have selected first- and second-team all-conference players for spring sports. Here are the players from the three county high schools. West Brunswick In soccer, Carla Zio, Julianna Zio and Taylor Esposito are on the first team. Carla Zio, a sophomore forward/defender, scored 32 goals. Julianna Zio, a senior forward, was injured most of the year and scored two goals. Esposito was a senior defender.

  • BCC volleyball tryouts June 10
    An open tryout for the 2012 Brunswick Community College women’s volleyball  team will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. June 10  Dinah E. Gore Aquatics & Fitness Center gymnasium.   • White will attend Wingate
    Staff Report South Brunswick senior Greg Burton-White signed a letter of intent Monday to attend Wingate University and play football. Last season, Burton-White gained 874 yards, averaging 7.29 yards a carry. He also had 14 receptions for 255 yards. Burton-White, who has a 4.0 GPA, will compete for a slot back position on the football team.
