Dixie registrations
Registration is open for the 2012 Dixie Boys Baseball and the 2012 Dixie Belles and Debs Softball programs. Both programs are for boys and girls 13-15. Registration deadline for Dixie Belles and Debs is Feb. 24 and the deadline for Dixie Boys is March 2.
Registration fee is $50 for both programs. For more information, call (910) 253-2670. Registration forms may be pick up at in Bolivia at the Government Complex, Building M, or you can get one online at www.brunswickcountync.gov (youth athletics page).
Dixie annual meeting Jan. 2
Shallotte Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball will have their annual spring meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 2 at Shallotte First Baptist Church, 4486 Main St., to discuss all new business for the coming 2012 season. Officers for the coming season will be elected. Coaches, parents and interested parties are encouraged to attend.

ORLANDO, Fla.—Precise movements, school spirit, contagious enthusiasm, vocal articulation, spiraling jumps, unbelievable stunts, team pyramids, individual safety and crowd appeal are all part of what are intensely scrutinized by five national Pop Warner cheerleading judges. The cheerleading teams only get one shot to show their stuff.
The Corporate Challenge Bowling League, organized by Planet Fun and the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, concluded its 2011 season with a bowl off Dec. 6 at Planet Fun among the first-and second-place finishers from each session this season. The three finalists were The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, Shallotte Rotary and Home & Garden Pest Solutions.

Brunswick County bowlers won three gold medals and a silver medal in the Special Olympics North Carolina Bowling Tournament Dec. 4.
The event for the eastern part of the state took place in Durham, the central part of the state in Greensboro and the western part of the state in Newton.
In Durham, nearly 300 Special Olympics North Carolina athletes competed and many coaches and volunteers supported the event, according to Keith L. Fishburne, Special Olympics North Carolina president/CEO.
