  • Shallotte wins county championship
The Shallotte Middle School Pirates boys’ basketball team completed its season on Feb. 9 in Leland with a win over the Cedar Grove Bulldogs to become the Brunswick County middle school champions. The victory gave the Pirates a record of 12-1, with their only loss occurring at Cedar Grove earlier in the season. On top of playing regular-season opponents in Brunswick County, there were three matchups with Hallsboro Middle School and Chadbourn Middle School, both out of Columbus County, and that proved to be pivotal for the boys’ success.
