    The Calabash VFW steel tip dart league results for Jan. 11. First: Barbara Ketcham and Lee Harrison. Second: Joe Lenz and Hank Olson. Third: Mike Walton and Joan Elmire.   • Simmons is tied for lead in blocks
     Cedric Simmons scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds (eight defensive) as Kavla lost 76-59 Jan. 22 in Greece professional basketball league game. He played a team-leading 36 minutes. Simmons is second in the 14-team league in rebounds per game (9.4) and tied for the lead in blocks per game (1.9). Kavala is 7-7 and tied for fourth.

  • Bobcats honored with NSCAA Team Ethics Award
    The Lees-McRae College women’s soccer team has been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for its sportsmanship and ethical play during the 2010 season, coach Cally Morrill said Friday. Two former West Brunswick High School soccer players are on the team: junior Mary Dorn and sophomore Monica Young.
  • Planet Fun hosts bowling tourney
    Twenty-four bowlers from two states competed in Planet Fun’s first scratch sweeper. The champion was Ken Shealy, finishing with a 223.6 average.  The runner-up was Richard Chmura with a 216 average. Jason Fitzgerald was third, with a 220 average. Chris Arcaro was fourth with a 212.1 average and Tony Todd was fifth with a 207.2 average. Ken Shealy also won the top qualifier bonus by leading the 10 games of qualifying with a 2,236 score (223.6 average).

    Bowl Challenge at Planet Fun The Brunswick Beacon ACC Basket-BOWL Challenge will have a meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at Planet Fun. The eight-week bowling league begins 7 p.m. Jan. 13.
