    YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS Brunswick County Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for spring youth tennis lessons. Lessons are at Smithville Park and Ocean Isle Beach Park. Age group and times vary by location. All classes are from 3:45-7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Class fee is $60. Call Ruthie McHugh at (910) 253-2583 to register.

Third: Darleen Riley, Jerry Morano and Tom Kelleher.   Results for Dec. 7: Rosie Thomas, Jerry Morano and Lee Harrison were first. Second: Rich Murray, Ken Yusko and Larry Hager. Third: Tom McCormack, Ray Ketcham and Gene Faessler.
  • Teams compete in county Senior Bowls
    The Brunswick County Senior Bowls were at South Brunswick High School on Nov. 20. The J.V. Senior Bowl teams are made up of all 9-year-olds that will be aging out and moving on to the Senior Division. The Senior teams are made up of all 12-year-olds that will be aging out of the program. Each year, one of the teams in each division is responsible for heading up the Senior Bowl Teams. The teams are on a rotation. 
  • Dixie Youth meeting Nov. 29
    Shallotte Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball will have its annual fall meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at Shallotte First Baptist Church in Shallotte to discuss al old business from the 2010 season. Coaches, parents and interested parties are encouraged to attend.
  • Brunswick County Tennis Association championship teams decided
    The Brunswick County Tennis Association had a season-ending round robin at the Ocean Isle Beach Tennis Center. Members of the BCTA ladies’ advanced league championship team captain Karen MacKinnon and members Kathy Babbis, Dawn Caporaso, Jan Denney, Margie Foote, Barbara McMichael, Kathy Pace, Ann Perry, Linda Peterson and Martha Reese.

  • Coasters win silver medal in N.C. Senior Games
    The Brunswick County Coasters, competing in the 75-and-older age group, finished second in the recent North Carolina Senior Games basketball tournament. The Coasters were one of two county teams in the state championship tournament, played Oct. 29-30 in Greenville at East Carolina University. The other team was the Force, who competed in the 65-69 age group.
  • Youth basketball registration set
    The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department is offering youth basketball. Registration is open until Nov. 19 for youth basketball. This is open to boys and girls in the first through sixth grades. Practice begins in December and games are in January and February.     The Calabash VFW steel tip Dart League results for 2 Nov: First: Darleen Riley, Ray Ketcham and Pat Perryman. Second: Jack Goin, Jerry Morano and Ken Yusko. Third third were Hank Olson, Sandy May and John Hinkman.  On Nov. 9, Darleen Riley, Hugo Kosmel and Pinky Hinkman were first. Second: Pete McGerr, John Hinkman and Barbara Clark. Third: Andy Kocsis, Winnie Kosmel and Neal Elmire.
