     Inspirations Dance Centre participated in the Marvonna Talent Competition Finals in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Inspirations Dance Centre dancers were awarded “Mega Xtreme” and “The Max” ratings for three group dances, one duet and seven solos.

  • Dub Fulford wins at Myrtle Beach Speedway
    After taking a couple weeks off, the drivers of Myrtle Beach Speedway delivered a thrilling night of racing Saturday. The eager participants of the bike race took the track before the pre-race ceremony. Adam Fulford Jr. won his fourth Young Gun bike race of the year. Along with Fulford in the Young Guns Series were Easton Swain, Glenn Evans and Joshua Carlyle. The Hot Rod series was won by first-timer Jamie Lynchfield. Jeffry Carlyle, Christopher Chestnut, and Hudson Hale also competed.

  • Hunting rules go into effect Aug. 1
    The proposed hunting and trapping rule changes approved by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission in March 2009 but delayed for legislative review will go into effect on Aug. 1. Along with these delayed rules, hunting, trapping and fishing rules proposed for the  2010-11 seasons, approved by the commission in March, go into effect on Aug. 1.

  • McCumbee 16th in ARCA race
    Chad McCumbee finished 16th in the ARCA Prairie Meadows 200 Saturday night at Iowa Speedway in Newton. McCumbee started 24th out of 38 drivers and finished 194 of the 200 laps. This was McCumbee’s sixth start of the season in the ARCA Racing Series. He has no top-10 finishes.  Tom Hessert, 24, took charge early and drove to his first career ARCA Racing Series victory. This was the ninth of 20 races this season. The next ARCA race is the Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200 July 17 at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park.

  • Migratory game bird seasons set
    The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has approved the season dates for dove and other webless migratory game birds, as well as September seasons for Canada geese and teal. Each year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provides frameworks from which to choose the seasons and the commission selects the actual dates within these guidelines. The commission allowed public input on the seasons throughout June on its website, www.ncwildlife.org. The 2010-11 seasons for webless migratory game birds and waterfowl early seasons are the following:

  • Brunswick to defend title in Dixie Boys tournament
    Two Brunswick County teams will be participating in July 17-22 at Smithville Park in Southport in the North Carolina Dixie Boys Baseball state tournaments. Brunswick is the defending champion in the Dixie Boys tournament (for 14-year-olds). Brunswick plays a first-round game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Field 2 against Columbus County.  If Brunswick wins, it plays a second-round game at 3:15 p.m. Sunday on Field 2 against either Dallas or Duplin County. If Brunswick loses its first-round game, it plays at 12:15 p.m. Monday on Field 1 in a loser-out game.

  • Debs lose in finals; Angels reach semis
    The Brunswick County Debs softball team lost twice Monday in the finals of a qualifying tourney for the Dixie Softball World Series, which begins July 31 in Vancleave, Miss. The Debs (16- to 18-year-olds) reached the championship finals of the North Carolina Dixie Debs Softball state tournament in Cherryville. Brunswick was one of four teams in the double-elimination tourney. The Debs opened the series by beating South Stanly 3-1 Saturday.

  • Inspirations Dance Centre participates in Showstopper championships
     Inspirations Dance Centre dancers were awarded “Gold” and “Platinum” ratings for six group dances, two duets and six solos in a recent competition.  The Extreme Company received a platinum first place and sixth overall for its jazz dance “Aha!” and a platinum first place and fifth overall for its contemporary dance “Slow Me Down.”

  • Adam Fulford wins fifth race this season at Myrtle Beach Speedway
    It was an exciting night for racing at Myrtle Beach Speedway Saturday night as two new faces visited victory lane.  To start the events on a hot and humid Saturday was the kids’ weekly bike race. The Hot Rod series winner was McKayla Sweeney, who traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., from Ohio to support Street Stock series driver Mark Hale. Adam Fulford won his third bike race of the season as he held off Jack Barnhill and newcomer Aiden Hetu, of Wilmington.

  • McCumbee finishes 15th in ARCA series race
    Chad McCumbee finished 15th out of 36 racers in the ARCA Racing Series Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 Saturday in Long Pond, Pa. McCumbee started 10th in his fourth race this season in the series. He completed 75 of 80 laps. Craig Goess assumed the lead from Mikey Kile on a series of late pit stops in the Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 and then held the point on the final restart to grab his first victory in ARCA. His average race speed was 167.069 mph.
