    Clardy leads bowlers with 759 series Michael Clardy rolled a 759 set as the classic leagues at the Brunswick County Bowling Center produced three 700 series in the past week. Clardy had games of 259, 244 and 206 in the McDonald’s Amusement Classic League on Feb. 11. Maurice Webster bowled a 742 and Rhonda Sabiston a 713 in the Williams Carpet Classic League on Feb. 15.   • Mount Calvary, Pleasant View stay unbeaten in church league
    Brunswick County Men’s Church Basketball League leaders Mount Calvary and Pleasant View kept their undefeated records in tact last week. Mount Calvary defeated Dixon Chapel 72-32 on Friday to improve its record to 7-0. Pleasant View was an 84-51 winner over Jennies Branch last Thursday to move to 6-0. Feb. 12 scores *New Beginnings 72, Shallotte First Baptist 29. Tim Mokma scored 19 points and James Ward added 14 for New Beginnings. David Batten led First Baptist with 10 points.
  • Local bowlers Decker, McFee record 700 series
    Terry Decker and Chris McFee rolled 700 series to highlight action in the McDonald’s Amusement Classic League last week at the Brunswick County Bowling Center. Decker had a 757 series with games of 223, 257 and 277 while McFee posted a 707 on games of 257, 216 and 234. MCDONALD’S AMUSEMENT
  • Sign up for baseball, softball
    Shallotte Dixie Youth will conduct final registration for T-ball, baseball and softball on Saturday, Feb. 16. Players may sign up from 9 a.m. until noon at Calvary Baptist Church on N.C. 179 in Shallotte. The league is open to boys and girls age 4-12 who live in the Shallotte, Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach and Calabash areas. Registration fees are $35 for T-Ball and $40 for baseball and softball.     Senior softball The Slammers, a senior softball team in Brunswick County, will open the 2008 season Tuesday, Feb. 26, with a 10 a.m. practice at Shallotte Park. The team is entering its 13th season and is open to men 55 years and older who want to play slow-pitch softball for fun, exercise and camaraderie. Weekly games are played locally. Players also may choose to participate in tournaments with other teams from the Carolinas and in the North Carolina State Senior Games.

    Roberts leads bowlers with 700 series Ricky Roberts had a 296 game and 700 series to highlight action in the McDonald’s Amusement Classic League at the Brunswick County Bowling Center on Jan. 28. Robert also had a 225 game in the series. McDONALD’S AMUSEMENT
