The Brush Dental U13 girls Shock finished the season with two wins, ending its season in the Pleasure Island Soccer Association 9-0.
This is the Shock’s third straight championship and runs its unbeaten streak to 32 games.
The Shock won the first game with a goal in the first half from Kira Frawley off an assist from Caroline Hawthorne. From there the Shock relied on its strong defense and finished the game with a 1-0 shutout, its fifth of the year.

The Shallotte U18 girls’ soccer team ended its season in the Cape Fear Soccer Club recreation league with a 3-0 win over Osmotica Pharmaceuticals earlier this month at Veterans Park in Wilmington. Shallotte finished the fall season in third place and with a 4-3-1 record, which included three shutouts.
The team comprises a broad mix of high school-aged girls, including new freshmen as well as current junior varsity and varsity players from the West Brunswick teams.
Napolitano all-conference for Wingate
Nick Napolitano is one of seven Wingate University football players on All-South Atlantic Conference teams. Napolitano, a West Brunswick graduate, is second-team all-conference defense.
In his first season as a starter, Napolitano (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) led Wingate with 11.5 tackles for loss (41 yards) and 7.5 quarterback sacks (32 yards). He led the SAC in quarterback sacks.
Free throw contest Nov. 17
The Knights of Columbus annual basketball free throw contest, sponsored by Our Lady of the Rosary Council No. 9039, is open to girls and boys ages 10-14 and will take place 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 17 at Shallotte Middle School.
Competitors in different age groups for girls and boys will shoot 15 free throws and the winners will receive trophies and advance to another competition. For more information, call Chuck Van Buren at 287-1785.
White is all-conference in volleyball
Carly White has been named to the 2012 All-Conference Carolinas volleyball third team. White, a West Brunswick graduate, earned all-conference honors for the second straight year.
A 6-foot-4 junior middle blocker from Ash, White led the conference with 0.89 blocks per set and was also among the conference leaders in hitting percentage and kills per set. Her .332 hitting percentage was the third highest in the conference and she ranked ninth with 2.90 kills per set.

The Calabash VFW Steel Dart League played its weekly match Oct. 23. First: Winnie Kosmel, Dennis Major and Larry Hagar. Second: Jay Valkenburg, Pinky Hindman and Hugo Kosmel. Third: Pat Burkhardt, Kathy Major and Rich Lelyo.

Pirates invaded Holden Beach Saturday and absconded with all the loot.
Actually, they swam, bicycled and ran away with all the loot.
Contestants from Charlotte had to hold onto their hats—their pirate hats—for the last leg as they crossed the finish line to win the Holden Beach Shipwreck Triathlon.
“It feels good to win,” said James Haycraft, 28. “The hardest leg was the run because my hat kept blowing off, and a Speedo is not the most comfortable thing to run in.”

Ten Brunswick athletes won gold medals in the Special Olympics North Carolina Eastern Bocce Tournament Oct. 20 at Arnette Park in Fayetteville.
The Brunswick Butterflies, consisting of Joann Ballato, Jade Gary, Marchetta Small and Kelly Young, won a gold medal.
The Brunswick Hunks, consisting of Louis Edward Oswald and Chris Oxendine, won a gold medal.
The Brunswick Tigers, consisting of Charles Trevor Jefferson, Jonathan Rectenwald III, Selina Smith and Warren Williams, won a gold medal.
