Golf

  • Small things make a big difference in golf

    By Darren deMaille

During every golf clinic I run, I begin the session by setting the tone for learning and motivation. I am constantly reminding my students to enjoy the moment and never take anything for granted. You never know what is around the corner, so count your blessings.

  • Some products piquing interest of golfers

    By Darren deMaille

The PGA Merchandise Show took place last week at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. More than a thousand golf companies participated. All the latest of everything that is golf was there. If you wanted to see it, or be seen, it was there. Equipment, clothing, gadgets, training aids, PGA Tour pros and celebrities were around every corner.  In addition, there were countless opportunities for PGA professionals like me to educate themselves and share thoughts and philosophies with other colleagues.

  • Making use of Christmas gifts

    By Darren deMaille

If you are a golfer, chances are you were given some gifts this year related to golf, some good and maybe some not so. I am a difficult person to shop for, as I usually have everything I need related to golf; however, this year there were a few great gifts that Santa brought to me. Now, two weeks post Christmas, it has given me time to make use of these gifts. Here are my reviews. Please feel free to share your reviews with me or stop by the DD Golf Academy to show them to me.

  • With the new year, begin a new you

I thank Elsa Bronstein for the wonderful introduction last week and her service with the Beacon for the last several years. She left big shoes to fill and I hope I can bring the same enjoyment she has given to so many people over the years. I wish her the best of luck with her new ventures and may she continue to touch people as she has done.

  • Darren deMaille new golf columnist for the Beacon

Exciting news for the readers of Golf Gab: You will have a new golf columnist starting in January. Darren deMaille will be taking over and I’m thrilled.

I met deMaille last week for lunch and we had a great visit. He is one terrific guy, a PGA pro and a teacher of the game of golf who owns the Double D Golf Academy in Little River, S.C.

In addition to his golf credentials, he has written about golf for newspapers in Connecticut, New York and Florida. He recently published an article in Golf Digest about starting a teaching academy.

  • New management team at Brick Landing

A new management team has taken the reins at Brick Landing, and it is truly a “team.”

Trey and Jennifer Ernstes are now in charge of operations. They are a married couple with a beautiful 2-year-old daughter (Jordyn). Jennifer is the general manager and Trey is the director of golf operations.

“Basically, I report to my wife, but I think we can handle it,” joked Trey Ernstes as I chatted with the two of them last week. “This is a great opportunity and we’re going to make it work.”
