  • Hope Harbor Home Tournament: Women helping women

Irene was my best friend growing up in a small Maryland town. We spent nights at each other’s houses, went to the same youth group at church, played endless games of Monopoly and talked on the phone for hours.
She got married and moved to Florida. I got married and moved to New Jersey.
When she was 24, Irene was stabbed to death on Christmas Eve by her husband. To make matters even worse, he did it in front of their two young children.

  • Carolina Shores: Removing trees, upgrading the course

Carolina Shores Golf and Country Club is one of the oldest courses in Brunswick County. Built in 1975, this beautiful track has been a staple for generations of golfers.
The architect, Tom Jackson, designed a number of courses in the southeast, many of them in the Carolinas. His credits along the Grand Strand include Aberdeen, Black Bear, the River Club at Litchfield, Magnolia Greens and River Hills.
The course winds through pine and hardwood forests with ponds strategically placed to thwart the errant shot.
